13 head, 1 with mange, another 1 marginal. Dropped to 11 degrees at daylight this morning with a -10 windchill.
12 degrees and good straigt coyote urine hauled in the back of an open truck still doesn't freeze up enough to not squirt out of a bottle! Nothing added to it, just straight urine!

Forgot to take the picture before I had skinned 2 coyotes. Mange was bad today, 11 coyotes total. Five with mange and one coyote just isn't good. 5 good out of 11. Also caught 4 more coons and a skunk.
This country needs 3 continous weeks with no days above freezing temperatures to get rid of this mange!

Only 3 coyotes and a badger today. It was way to hot yesterday at 61 degrees. Today is still really high at 62 degrees.

Pulled all but 4 traps I will pick up the morning. Will move 110 miles and start all over again tomorrow.

13 coyotes and 2 coons today. All of the coyotes are in excellent shape.

I still catch a few coyotes each year in longsprings in remembrance of Forrest Martin.
Not pictured. I caught 1 John Deere. Unfortunately the anchor failed and I'm still looking for it!

14 head and a coon today.
Unfortunately, 5 are Chupacabras (have mange.)
This is the first "breaking" coyote of the season. It did come out of a pretty significant weed patch. Hoping it is an anomaly. Buyers that I communicate with say it is still worth $35-$40 finished this season.
This is the only lure I use. Just the muskrat (or beaver) blood dribbled around the hole. Notice there is only one place for the coyotes foot to land at each set.

Only 7 today, having trouble finding coyotes on a big part of this line. Fur is roughed up on them from laying in the truck. All are very nice coyotes!

12 head out of the 33 sets I mudded in yesterday. Missed two coyotes as the top dressing over the Peat moss froze up from the rain we had at dark last night.

After a very busy 6 days at home I'm on the road heading back out. Will be setting traps tomorrow (Saturday) and be skinning coyotes again by Sunday. Here are some pictures of successful traps from the past couple weeks.

I'm driving out into some bad weather. Freezing rain and snow accumulations expected. It takes alot of self confidence rolling the dice and putting this kind of operating expenses / money on the table. Goal or no goal, money has to be made, I measure the fianancial success or failure on a weekly basis.

20 today. Out of freezer space, been pulling traps. Tomorrow's catch will get skinned and hauled home then put in a freezer after I get there.

26 head today.
The very same equipment (plus 7 new sets) only produced 16 coyotes yesterday.

Only 16 today. 1 freezer is full, put 2 more pelts in it last night and had to ratchet strap the lid closed. The other 3 freezers are all within 6 inches of being full. I will start scaling back tomorrow and pull traps that make catches. Probably pull a couple of dead heads as well.
I will pull a majority of the line Friday and leave only the newest work to pull on Saturday. Then head towards home Saturday night. Unload the full freezers and reload with empty freezers. I may even try to shove an additional 15 cubic foot freezer in the living quarters of my trailer.
From Christmas till January 7th, in this country, tends to be the highest concentration of the most valuable coyotes.

Personal best for me. 35 coyotes on a 24 hour check. No lure used, just bait and urine. Half of these were caught on muskrat quarters and good urine. No Alphas or Betas, just this pile to skin and the ones we will catch and skin tomorrow.
The coyote population is way DOWN! I'm strung out over 2 counties. Today's catch consisted of 6 doubles and 23 singles. The weather front coming in made this catch.

Only 11 coyotes today, really warm weather.
Had to move coyotes to get the jack out. Took almost 5 minutes to change this tire and be rolling again. County blacktop road, it must have been a bolt or something. The tire is ruined. Hole big enough to stick your finger in. It sure pays to be prepared.
Only in the last two evenings have I felt good about these coyotes getting close to being ready/prime! Time to get serious about filling the freezers with them.
